They Took My Job

I was the night jock in a medium sized market.  I wasn’t number 1 but my numbers were respectable.  One night I was told that I was forced to have a new guy as my new cohost.  Almost immediately it did not make any sense.  I asked why and was told that the station just wanted to shake it up a little.

I am no fool.  If this were true, why did they hire someone from a different city, move them to our market, if he was only going to be a cohost?  I confronted the program director on my theory that I was going to be replaced and he promised me that I had nothing to worry about. He said we needed another jock on staff to also fill in and help on weekends.

The new guy was actually kind of cool but I did not allow myself to become close to him.  We worked well together and the show did not gain or lose any popularity in the following book.  Several months later I was let go and he replaced me as the station night jock.  Instead of letting me go once the new guy started working at the station, they allowed him on my show to get my listeners familiar with him so the show would not lose any additional listeners once I was let go.
